World’s First All-Robot Assault: Zelenskyy Declares “The Future Has Arrived”

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief

(Worthy News) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a historic battlefield milestone this week, declaring that Ukrainian forces successfully captured a Russian position using only unmanned robotic systems—marking what he described as a first in modern warfare.

Speaking during Ukraine’s Arms Makers’ Day, Zelenskyy said the operation represents a turning point not just in the war with Russia, but in the evolution of warfare itself.

“The future is here, on the battlefield, and Ukraine is creating it,” Zelenskyy stated in remarks shared publicly.

A Battlefield Without Soldiers

According to Ukrainian officials, the operation—carried out at an undisclosed location—relied entirely on drones and a grid-based robotic system (GRS), a coordinated network of unmanned platforms capable of executing combat missions without direct human presence on the ground.

The robotic force included advanced systems such as the TerMIT, a multifunctional unit capable of laying mines and delivering fire support; the Zmiy, an armored robotic transporter; and the Protector, a heavy unmanned ground vehicle designed for combat operations.

Zelenskyy noted that autonomous systems have already been deployed in more than 22,000 frontline missions over the past three months alone, underscoring the rapid integration of robotics into Ukraine’s military strategy.

Rise of Autonomous Warfare

Ukraine’s growing reliance on unmanned systems—ranging from aerial drones to robotic ground units—has become a defining feature of the conflict. Zelenskyy emphasized that these technologies are now central to the country’s defense.

“Our missiles, our unmanned systems, our interceptors, attack and naval drones, reconnaissance systems, artillery, our ammunition, armored vehicles, robotic platforms… all that today is proudly called the weapons of Ukraine,” he said.

He added that these systems are actively defending cities, protecting civilians, and saving lives while demonstrating the effectiveness of domestically developed military technology.

Experts Warn of Global Implications

Military analysts say the implications of fully autonomous assaults could reshape the future of warfare.

Dr. Patrick Bury, a senior professor of warfare and counter-terrorism, questioned whether such developments could fundamentally alter the nature—not just the character—of war.

Meanwhile, former U.S. State Department official Mike Benz warned that removing human soldiers from frontline combat could lower political barriers to launching military operations.

“‘Boots on the ground’ will no longer carry the political risk of sending ‘our boys’ out to fight,” Benz wrote, suggesting that robot-led invasions could become increasingly tempting for governments.

His remarks referenced Ukraine’s prior use of robotic “dog-like” drones, highlighting how rapidly such technologies are advancing from experimental tools to frontline assets.

A Glimpse Into the Future

As the war continues, Ukraine’s deployment of fully unmanned assault forces signals a dramatic shift in military doctrine—one that could soon be adopted by other nations.

What was once the realm of science fiction is now unfolding in real time, raising profound ethical, strategic, and geopolitical questions about the future of conflict in an increasingly automated world.
