CENTCOM says every Iranian missile was intercepted as allied warplanes struck weapons and logistics sites used by Tehran-backed militias

WASHINGTON/JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles at American forces stationed in Jordan early Wednesday, prompting the United States and Saudi Arabia to carry out joint airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias operating inside Iraq.
U.S. Central Command described the Iranian barrage as an attempted “surprise attack” against American troops in the Middle East. A U.S. official said at least four ballistic missiles were fired toward an American military base in Jordan, calling the operation a “major attack.” All of the incoming missiles were intercepted, and no casualties or damage were initially reported.
The attack marked Iran’s first known direct missile strike against an American target since President Donald Trump paused U.S. military operations against the Islamic Republic following two weeks of fighting. American forces had conducted nightly strikes against Iranian targets between July 8 and July 24 before Washington temporarily halted the campaign to allow negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz to proceed.
Hours before the missile launch, an Iranian negotiator warned publicly that Tehran was “fully prepared for all out war.” The declaration underscored the widening gap between diplomatic efforts and Iran’s actions across the region, where the regime continues to employ both its own ballistic arsenal and an extensive network of armed proxy groups.
U.S. and Saudi Arabia Strike Back
In a coordinated response, American and Saudi aircraft struck multiple weapons and logistics facilities used by Iran-aligned militias in eastern Iraq. CENTCOM said the targets belonged to groups directed by the IRGC to attack American personnel and Saudi energy infrastructure.
The joint operation followed more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks during the previous 72 hours, according to CENTCOM. Saudi air defenses also intercepted several drones launched from Iraq toward oil installations in the kingdom’s Eastern Province. Saudi officials said the country reserved the right to defend its territory and respond at a time and place of its choosing.
CENTCOM said Iran-backed militias had attempted more than 600 attacks against American citizens and facilities between February and April 2026 alone. While the latest attacks on U.S. forces failed, the military issued a direct warning to Tehran and its proxies that further aggression would bring additional American retaliation.
“The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further U.S. military response,” CENTCOM said.
The Iranian missile attack came only hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Trump at the White House, where the two leaders focused heavily on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the danger posed by its regional military network. The timing raised the stakes surrounding negotiations with Tehran and demonstrated that even during a temporary pause in U.S. strikes, Iran remains prepared to test American resolve through direct and proxy warfare.
