MADISON, USA (Worthy News) – A shooting at a Christian school in the U.S. state of Wisconsin’s capital, Madison, has left at least five people dead on Monday, including the suspected shooter, and at least seven others injured, police said.
The shooting occurred at the Abundant Life Christian School, a private institution that teaches some 400 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, which appealed for prayers.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said the suspected attacker, a juvenile believed to be a student at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, is among the dead.
“Today is a sad, sad day not only for Madison, for our entire country,” Barnes said. “We have to do a better job in our community, on a Monday, so close to Christmas, [as] we are updating on victims,” he stressed.
Police said they responded to the school around 11 local time following a call “of an active shooter at the Christian school.” A long line of sirens-wailing vehicles was seen rushing to the area.
Police soon found multiple victims with gunshot wounds when arriving at the school. Worthy News learned that officers did not fire any weapons once inside the school.
Besides those killed, a total of seven individuals were transported to the hospital. Police Chief Barnes said the injuries range from “minor to life-threatening.”
LARGE POLICE PRESENCE
There remained a large police presence at the school, including ambulances and emergency vehicles parked outside.
Police believe there is no ongoing threat to other schools or the surrounding community.
A reunification was set up next to the school building to reunite students with their parents. “Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever,” Barnes warned.
As the extent of the tragedy became apparent, the school posted on social media,” Please pray for our Challenger Family.“
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said he was closely monitoring the incident and praying for those suffering.
“We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond,” Evers said in a statement on the social media platform X.
The White House said U.S. President Joe Biden has been informed, and senior officials are in touch with local authorities.
The shooting was due to add to a debate on the many firearms that are readily available across the United States, as this was the latest in a series of school shootings in the nation.
