Britain Warmly Welcomes Ukraine’s Zelenskyy After Washington ‘Disaster’

BRUSSELS/BUDAPEST/LONDON (Worthy News) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London, reaffirming Britain’s support for Ukraine, a day after the Ukrainian leader’s disastrous trip to Washington D.C.

“Action, not just words. Britain stands with Ukraine, today and always,” Starmer wrote on social media platform X with short footage showing the men handshaking and hugging each other with an enthusiastic crowd audible nearby.

Zelenskyy then received a warm reception from Starmer, who told him he was “very, very welcome” at 10 Downing Street, the prime minister’s official residence.

Starmer stressed that the British will support Ukraine “for as long as necessary” and that he is determined to work toward a lasting peace for the country.

Zelenskyy thanked him for the support and expressed “gratitude” to Britain’s King Charles, who would receive him on Sunday.

The Ukrainian president left 10 Downing Street after over an hour, but details were not disclosed about what was discussed behind closed doors.

PUBLIC ALTERCATION

Their gathering came after a public altercation between Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald J. Trump over the war against Russia in Ukraine.

The secretary general of the NATO military alliance, Mark Rutte, urged President Zelensky to mend relations with Trump following their tense exchange at the Oval Office in the White House.

Zelenskyy left Washington early without signing a mineral deal with the United States following a tense argument between the two leaders in front of journalists.

Trump later reportedly ordered his officials to tell the Ukrainian delegation to leave the White House.

Rutte, a former Dutch prime minister, said it was “important that President Zelensky,” with whom he spoke by phone, “finds a way to restore his relationship with the American president and with the senior American leadership team.”

It wasn’t clear Saturday when and if that would happen.
