YouVersion CEO: Record Bible Engagement Signals Global Spiritual Awakening

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – The founder of YouVersion, the world’s most popular Bible app, says unprecedented engagement with Scripture reflects a global spiritual revival. On Easter Sunday 2025, 18.95 million people used the app—an all-time high and a 12% jump over the previous year.

“This has been a record year for the Bible app, and there’s a momentum building that we see happening globally,” YouVersion CEO Bobby Gruenewald told Crosswalk. “We’re obviously very humbled to be a part of something that, clearly, God’s doing.”

YouVersion has logged 16 record-setting days already this year. Gruenewald says the trend goes beyond the app: “There’s just a real openness right now to Scripture and to the church… we’ve not seen [this] in recent history.”

Bible sales back that up. U.S. sales rose 22% last year, with Lifeway reporting a 30% surge. UK sales have nearly doubled in five years.

A Barna survey found 66% of U.S. adults now say they’ve made a personal commitment to Jesus—a 12-point increase since 2022, mainly fueled by Gen Z and Millennials.

“I think revival is here,” said Jennie Allen, founder of UniteUS. “There’s a hunger for God that is fresh, and I believe He’s blessing it and pouring out His Spirit.”

Gruenewald added, “We are privileged to be a part of it, but… the Bible app has become just a really critical and important tool for this generation.”
