U.K., Canada, and Australia Recognize Palestinian State Despite Israeli Opposition

LONDON (Worthy News) – The United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia on Sunday simultaneously announced their recognition of a Palestinian state, a coordinated diplomatic move aimed at reviving hopes for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The decision comes despite strong objections from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned it would “reward terror with an enormous prize.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in a video posted on X, said the step was meant to “revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis.” He added, “We recognized the state of Israel more than 75 years ago as a homeland for the Jewish people. Today we join over 150 countries who recognize a Palestinian state also. A pledge to the Palestinian and Israeli people that there can be a better future.”

Starmer emphasized the recognition was not a concession to Hamas, the terror group that carried out the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel in which some 1,200 people–mostly civilians–were killed and 251 abducted. “Hamas is a brutal terror organization. They will have no future, no role in government, no role in security,” he said.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney echoed those sentiments, declaring that Canada’s recognition was a continuation of decades of policy supporting a two-state solution. “It is imperative that Hamas release all hostages, fully disarm and play no role in the future governance of Palestine,” Carney said, accusing Hamas of having “stolen from the Palestinian people, cheated them of their life and liberty.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong, in a joint statement, said their decision was part of “a coordinated international effort to build new momentum for a two-state solution, starting with a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages taken in the atrocities of October 7, 2023.”

Israel Rejects Move as “Reward for Terror”

Prime Minister Netanyahu lashed out at the recognition, calling it a “reward for terror.” “A Palestinian state will not be established west of the Jordan River,” he said, promising to announce Israel’s official response after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House next week.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar described the move as an “immoral, outrageous, and ugly act” that would “be remembered with eternal disgrace.” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir went further, calling for immediate sovereignty over Judea and Samaria as Israel’s answer to the recognition.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid labeled the development a “diplomatic disaster,” saying the current government had failed to prevent “the most severe diplomatic crisis ever.”

Public Opposition in Europe and Britain

While the three governments pressed forward, polls show their populations remain deeply divided. A survey by the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) found that 71% of French citizens oppose recognition of a Palestinian state without preconditions such as the release of Israeli hostages or Hamas’s surrender.

Similarly, a JL Partners poll revealed that 87% of the British public reject recognition without such conditions, underscoring the political risks for leaders pursuing this path.

Prophetic Warnings: Dividing the Land of Israel

Bible prophecy warns that the nations that seek to divide Israel will come under judgment. In Joel 3:2, God declares: “I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.”

Similarly, the prophet Zechariah foresaw Jerusalem as a heavy burden for the nations: “On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people. All who try to lift it will injure themselves” (Zechariah 12:3).

For prophecy watchers, the recognition of a Palestinian state by Western nations–at a time when Israel remains at war with Hamas–appears to align with these warnings. Efforts to impose a two-state solution by dividing the biblical land of Israel may fulfill what the prophets foresaw: global pressure on Jerusalem leading to both international conflict and divine reckoning.

Global Context

More than 145 countries have already recognized a Palestinian state, including a dozen in Europe. However, Israel and the United States remain firmly opposed, arguing that recognition absent security guarantees emboldens Hamas and undermines peace efforts.

The coordinated recognition by three of Israel’s closest Western allies marks one of the most significant shifts in Middle East diplomacy in recent years, threatening to deepen tensions not only with Jerusalem but also with Washington, which has repeatedly warned against unilateral steps.
