Bible Sales Surge Across U.S. Following Assassination of Charlie Kirk

(Worthy News) – Bible sales across the United States surged to their highest level in years following the Sept. 10 assassination of Turning Point USA founder and Christian activist Charlie Kirk, according to data cited by The Wall Street Journal and Decision Magazine.

In September alone, Americans purchased 2.4 million Bibles — a 36% increase from the same month in 2024 — marking the strongest month of Bible sales recorded in 2025. The figures, compiled by Circana BookScan, showed that Bible sales rose sharply even as overall U.S. print book sales declined by 1% during the same period.

“September brought a wave of troubling events — violence, geopolitical tensions, and economic uncertainty — underscoring a pattern: In times of crisis, more people turn to faith for comfort and support,” said Brenna Connor, an analyst at Circana BookScan.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing, the nation’s largest commercial publisher of Bibles, confirmed that the spike was especially strong among young adults aged 18 to 34. “Charlie’s assassination awakened a lot of people,” said Mark Schoenwald, the company’s president and CEO. “They started to think about what they believe and why.”

At Cornerstone Christian Bookstore in Vineland, New Jersey, owner James Borrero described the sudden surge as an “awakening.”
“Ever since the Charlie Kirk shooting, there has been an awakening — not only with Bibles but with all Christian-related items,” he told The Wall Street Journal. “Even people like my father, who never knew about him, were affected by his death.”

Borrero said the words of Kirk’s widow, Erika, at the memorial service resonated deeply with people across the country. “After Charlie’s assassination, we didn’t see violence, we didn’t see rioting, we didn’t see revolution,” she said. “Instead, we saw revival. We saw people open a Bible for the first time in a decade, pray for the first time since they were children, and attend church for the first time in their entire lives.”

She also drew national attention when she publicly forgave her husband’s killer, Tyler Robinson — a moment many Christians have since cited as a powerful testimony of faith.
