Africa Missions Association Aims to Establish Missions in Every African Nation

by Karen Faulkner, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – With headquarters in the US, the Africa Mission Association (AMA) works to unite churches in establishing new Africa-led and funded missions in all 54 African countries, Christian Daily International (CDI) reports.

AMA is “a unified family of churches” that seeks to support fellow churches in Africa by providing services including financial support and training for missionary work. AMA is currently present in seven African countries, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Burundi.

“Our vision is to have a community of devoted disciples of Christ within walking distance of every African,” the AMA explains in a website statement. “We strive to facilitate great partnerships, provide excellent accountability and reporting,” the statement reads.

Speaking to Christian Daily International, AMA Vice Chair Stephen Mbogo said his organization is “strategically working to establish national mission associations in each African country by fostering a sense of ownership and coordination at the national level.”

One of AMA’s chief aims is to increase “resources, money, and people in support of Africa,” the website confirms. However, this is a major challenge for the group. According to Mbogo, the historical under-representation of Africa’s important contribution to the global missionary movement is “reflected in mission statistics and reports, which tend to overlook the extensive missionary activities undertaken by African churches and organizations,” CDI reports.

Nevertheless, despite the challenges, “Mbogo is optimistic about the future of Africa-led and Africa-funded missions. He emphasized the immense potential that lies within the passion, commitment, and spiritual vitality of African Christians, particularly the youth,” CDI said in its report.
